The producer responsibility is based on an EU Directive. According to the directive, producers and importers in the different Member States must make sure that vehicles manufactured and imported for use in the different Member States are collected and subjected to environmental treatment at the end of their useful life.
It is important that reporting is correct since the general purpose is to enable the Danish Environmental Protection Agency to map the waste streams for end-of-life vehicles. The aim is to avoid illegal waste exports and inexpedient and illegal treatment and disposal routes.
To follow Denmark’s compliance with the rules a registration must be made of the number of vehicles imported, sold, registered, and used in Denmark along with the number of vehicles collected and subjected to environmental treatment at the end of their useful life. Some data are collected from DPA-System importer register; other data derive from the ELV Recycling Scheme, and others from recycling industries in Denmark that report directly to the Danish Environmental Protection Agency. The Danish Environmental Protection Agency is in charge of gathering the relevant data and report to the EC Commission.
