The WEEE Order defines producer responsibility for electrical and electronic equipment and it gives a number of exemptions for this responsibility.

Information on the subsequent pages is meant to help identify whether or not equipment is covered, which category it falls under, and how to mark equipment according to the rules.

Electrical and electronic equipment is defined as:

  • Equipment which is dependent on electrical currents or electromagnetic fields in order to work properly, and
  • Equipment for the generation, transfer and measurement of such currents and fields.
It follows from the above that all finished equipment dependent on electrical currents or electromagnetic fields is covered by the producer responsibility for electrical and electronic equipment.

For equipment covered by producer responsibility the Order sets up a number of requirements for producers and importers of electrical equipment as well as rules about how to manage equipment when it becomes waste. For electrical equipment not covered by producer responsibility the Order only decides how to manage equipment when it becomes waste.
