Duties
Producers/importers with producer responsibility for electrical and electronic equipment marketed in Denmark have a number of statutory duties to comply with. These duties fall within marking, registration, take-back, management, information, and financing.
Duties under producer responsibility:
- Marking – marking of equipment with a crossed-out wheeled bin.
- Registration – registration in the DPA-System producer register with information among others on product categories and final users.
- Take-back – take-back of household WEEE including collection of household WEEE from municipal recycling centres according to directions from DPA-System.
- Take-back – take-back of business WEEE or contracting with purchaser about transfer of responsibility for WEEE management duties.
- Management – ensure that collected WEEE is managed and recycled by an approved reprocessor.
- Information – information to reprocessors about correct recycling and treatment of equipment.
- Financing – payment of costs of transport and treatment of WEEE.
- Financing – provision of financial guarantee for future costs of transport and treatment of household WEEE.
- Information – reporting of quantities to DPA-System on equipment put on the market and collected and treated WEEE.
These duties may be assumed by the producer or the importer himself (individual compliers) or the producer/the importer may choose to have a collective scheme carry out these tasks on his behalf.
