Allocation of WEEE

When the WEEE Order came into force producers and importers subject to producer responsibility for equipment directed at private users took over the duty to collect and treat WEEE from municipal collection sites. This used to be a municipal obligation.

In pursuance of the WEEE Order DPA-System is thus to allocate WEEE from private households to producers and importers or their collective schemes. Allocated WEEE must be picked up from the municipal collection sites and reprocessed in an environmentally suitable manner. Allocation takes place annually on the basis of the market share which derives from the annually reported quantities and with geographically fair criteria.

Allocation by fraction

At the municipal collection sites WEEE is divided into no less than five fractions. In addition, batteries have their own fraction.

Producers and importers having producer responsibility or their collective schemes must manage WEEE and waste portable batteries corresponding to their market share within each individual fraction. Therefore municipal collection sites are allocated to them in relation to market share per fraction. The allocation scheme covers collection sites that local authorities have registered with DPA-System.

Annual allocation

DPA-System informs on an annual basis producers and importers or their collective schemes which collection sites have been allocated to them. It appears from the link on the right hand side who collects from which collection sites.

Proffessional assistance

Producers make calls for tenders among hauliers and recycling companies who are then contracted to collect WEEE and waste batteries from the allocated collection sites. The producer or his collective scheme must inform local authorities about who has been contracted to service each collection site and each fraction.
