The EU WEEE Directive sets up common EU rules on management of WEEE. The rules are motivated by environmental respect and are meant to limit WEEE arisings. The aim is on the one hand to encourage producers to produce environment-friendly products and on the other hand to increase reuse, recycling and other forms of recovery of products and ensuing waste.
Producer responsibility has authority in the Danish Environmental Protection Act and is implemented with the WEEE Statutory Order. This legislation applies to all producers and importers putting electrical equipment on the market in Denmark (unless the equipment is covered by an exemption criterion). Producer responsibility also applies to producers in other EU Member States selling directly to private users in Denmark through distance sale or internet trade.
Producers and importers must clarify themselves whether or not they are subject to producer responsibility. DPA-System will guide producers and importers in the scope of the rules on producer responsibility.
