Products and responsibility

Other players

In addition to producers, importers, and authorities various other players are involved in the producer responsibility with different roles. Each of these players has obligations to comply with in pursuance of the law.

Below you can find more detailed information about the different players

The players are: Producers and importers, their distributors, and consumers on the one hand and local authorities, hauliers, and reprocessors of waste on the other.

More information on obligations of the different players

On this website you can read more about the obligations of each group of players under the different entries. Producers and importers can also be guided in compliance with their part of the producer responsibility scheme. Producer responsibility applies to producers of equipment for use both in private households and in businesses.

  • Authorised representative (AR)
Businesses established in an EU Member State selling electrical and electronic equipment to end-users in Denmark, but that do not have a Danish CVR number (Central Business Register) must register through an authorised representative. An AR gets the full legal responsibility for the duty of registration and reporting of the producer.

  • Collective schemes
Collective schemes are businesses offering to assume some of the administrative and practical tasks associated with producer responsibility on behalf of the producer.

    See list of collective schemes
  • Auditors
In connection with their annual reporting of quantities, all producers placing electrical equipment on the market must submit an auditor’s attestation authenticating quantities placed on the market.

  • Recycling industries
When the electrical equipment, batteries and accumulators, and vehicles become waste, it must be collected and environmentally treated in view of recycling. This task must be assumed by approved waste carriers and recyclers.

  • Consultants and other service providers
Many companies offer consultancy services in connection with the producers’ administrative obligations (compliance) under the producer responsibility system.

  • Dealers and distributors
Dealers and distributors of electrical equipment, batteries, and vehicles do not necessarily have producer responsibility, but they may have some duties in relation to sale and take-back.

  • Local authorities
Local authorities have a number of assignments in connection with producer responsibility, including safeguarding that citizens sort their waste at the municipal collection sites and that portable batteries are collected in the vicinity of citizens.

  • Car breakers
When you need to scrap your car, you must use an environmentally approved car breaker or a dealer/repair shop that has a valid agreement with an environmentally approved car breaker. On this page you can find a list of environmentally approved car breakers.

  • Consumers
Consumers, both private persons and businesses, contribute with their handling of end-of-life products to making sure that the purpose of producer responsibility is attained. The incentive scheme for scrapping of vehicles is an example of this.

  • Producer registers in the EU
This legislation is implemented all over the EU, so there are similar producer registers in all EU Member States. A network of these registers has also been established: EWRN (European WEEE Registers Network).
