Battery registers in the EU

The Battery Directive has been implemented all over the EU, but with national differences.

Therefore, it is not certain that products covered in Denmark are covered by producer responsibility in another EU Member State. Similarly, rules for products under the duty to register may vary.

Note:

Only batteries and accumulators produced or imported into Denmark and put on the market in Denmark are covered by producer responsibility and must be registered here. Products exported elsewhere in the EU must be registered in the country of destination and NOT in the Danish register.

For production and import of products destined for export the producer or the importer must contact the relevant country for further information on producer responsibility, registration etc.

European exchange of experience

Denmark participates in the European WEEE Registers Network (EWRN). Efforts are ongoing to establish a similar European network among battery registers.

The purpose of these networks is to exchange experience across borders in view of making WEEE and battery rules as smooth and uniform for producers and importers as possible.
